metaphors of internet

this project is designed to lay out the basic frames for how users, designers, and researchers define and make sense of internet technologies and computer-mediated communication.

it begins with the premise that users, policy makers, and scholars experience and talk about CMC within the continuum of Tool...Place...Way of Being.... . The project is to interrogate this hueristic by conducting metaphor analyses of popular media, government documents, and scholarly works.

  • metaphor analyses of user discourse
  • meta analysis of published academic research conducted since the mid '80s
  • analysis of governmental statements
  • rhetorical analysis of website and interface design
